Behind the Scenes of the Annual Maine Lobster Festival
Festivals are always fun, especially when more people attend. In Maine, there is an annual Lobster Festival, with all you can eat lobster and activities that are family- friendly. Since Maine is popular for their lobsters, their annual festival occurs during their main lobster season; people from the whole state and even other states attend, just for some yummy, fresh lobster. What people don't tend to realize or even care about is how the lobster- cooking process is done. In order for lobsters to "taste better", they are boiled alive, thus causing many organizations, like PETA, to object to the methods. More people each year, go to this annual festival, protesting, to advocate for the creatures. Of course there is a distinction in pain between a crustacean and mammal, but it still seems pretty cruel to use such cooking methods.
David Wallace's piece is aimed at showing the cruelty used towards these creatures being cooked. It doesn't start to show bias for a few paragraphs, but then it gets into the processes used by many people. Anyone writing a research paper would probably benefit from using details that explain how to cook a lobster or what happens during the annual lobster festival in Maine, but the researcher should be careful when using the more biased parts in the article.
